WordCamp Johannesburg is a one-day event on Friday 30 October 2026, and the venue is easy once you know where you’re going.

Full address, map, and nearby stays also live on the location page.

The venue

We’re at The Edge at Knightsbridge – Knightsbridge Conference Centre, inside Knightsbridge Office Park.

Knightsbridge Office Park
33 Sloane Street, Bryanston, Johannesburg, 2191

Open in Google Maps

It’s just off the Winnie Mandela Drive (William Nicol) offramp, between Sandton and Fourways. Indoor rooms for talks and workshops, outdoor space for breaks, backup power, Wi-Fi, and wheelchair access. Secure parking on site.

If your GPS still uses the old road name, search William Nicol Drive – same road, recently renamed.

If you’re flying in

Johannesburg has two airports. Which one you use changes the last stretch of the trip.

OR Tambo International (JNB) is the main international airport, and most domestic flights still land here. It’s on the east of the city. Budget 35–60 minutes by car to Bryanston, longer in Friday morning traffic.

Lanseria (HLA) is the smaller airport north-west of Joburg. Some Cape Town and Durban flights land here, and it’s closer to the venue – often 20–30 minutes by car. If you have a choice and you’re only coming for WordCamp, Lanseria is the easier landing.

If you can, fly in on Thursday 29 October. The event is a Friday. A delayed Thursday-night flight plus Joburg morning traffic is a rough way to start the day.

Airport to the venue

From OR Tambo, the straightforward option is Gautrain + Uber.

Follow the yellow Gautrain signs from arrivals. Buy or load a Gautrain card at the station, take the train to Sandton (about 15 minutes), then Uber or Bolt the last 10–20 minutes to 33 Sloane Street. Gautrain does not run 24 hours – last trains are around 20:30. If you land later than that, go door-to-door with Uber or Bolt.

From Lanseria, use Uber or Bolt. There’s no train. It’s a short ride to Bryanston.

A few airport habits that save hassle:

Book the ride inside the terminal. Check the car’s make, colour, and registration before you get in.

Ignore anyone who approaches you in arrivals offering a taxi.

If you’re driving

Bryanston sits on the northern side of Joburg, with easy access from the N1 Western Bypass, Winnie Mandela Drive, and Main Road.

From Pretoria / Centurion / Midrand: N1 south, then Winnie Mandela Drive. Off-peak this is often 35–50 minutes. Friday morning can stretch that – leave earlier than you think.

From Sandton: 10–20 minutes up Winnie Mandela Drive or via Main Road.

From the south or east of Joburg: N1 or N3 onto the Western Bypass, then Winnie Mandela Drive.

Enter Knightsbridge Office Park from Sloane Street. There’s a gatehouse. Tell security you’re there for WordCamp Johannesburg / The Edge conference centre. Secure parking is on site.

Where to stay

Stay in Bryanston if you can. You’ll avoid the Friday-morning cross-town commute, and you’re close enough to walk or take a five-minute Uber.

These are the nearby options listed on the location page. Prices move, so treat them as a starting point:

Bella Casa Guesthouse – small lodge, gardens, from about R441 / night

The Royal Bryanston – practical rooms, close by, from about R678 / night

Monte La Vue Hotel – modern suites, from about R895 / night

City Lodge Hotel Bryanston – off Main Road, pool and café, from about R1,165 / night

Little Tuscany Boutique Hotel – on-site restaurant and gardens, from about R1,386 / night

Sandton hotels work if you already have a favourite or you’re pairing WordCamp with other meetings. Budget an Uber each way, and add time on Friday morning.

What to pack for the day

October in Johannesburg is warm days, cooler mornings, and the start of afternoon thunderstorms. Think 12–26°C. A light layer and a compact umbrella will cover you.

South African plugs are Type M (the big three-pin). Many hotels also have Type C. If you’re coming from outside the country, pack an adaptor.

A few Joburg notes

Use Uber or Bolt rather than hailing a car on the street. Stick to your hotel, the venue, and Sandton / Bryanston after dark. Don’t walk around with your phone out on the pavement.

The WordPress community here is friendly. If you’re arriving from another city and don’t know anyone yet, you will by lunch. That’s half the point of coming in person.

Get your ticket, then get here

Tickets are on the WordCamp Johannesburg site. Standard tickets are R350.

If you’ve already bought one and you’re travelling in: book the room, pick an airport, and give yourself Thursday night if you can. We’ll see you at Knightsbridge.

Venue details

Get your ticket

If you’re flying in, driving up from Pretoria, or making the trip from elsewhere in South Africa – this is the practical guide.
