WordCamp Johannesburg is the next step for a community that already shows up every month.
If you’ve been to a WP Joburg meetup, you know the energy: freelancers, agency people, designers, developers, and business owners in one room, sharing what actually works. WordCamp takes that same spirit and gives it a full day – talks, workshops, and the hallway conversations that often matter most.
Why it matters
It’s for the people who build with WordPress every day. Not a sales pitch. Not a product demo day. A chance to learn from people doing real work in Joburg and across South Africa.
It brings the community together in one place. Meetups are brilliant, but they’re one morning a month. WordCamp puts more of the Gauteng WordPress scene in the same building at the same time – people you follow on Slack, collaborators you’ve never met in person, and voices we don’t hear often enough on a bigger stage.
It’s run by the community, for the community. Same volunteers who organise our monthly meetups. Open, welcoming, and focused on being useful – whether you’re shipping your first client site or running an agency team.
It keeps WordPress in Joburg strong. Local events like this are how communities grow skills, connections, and confidence. They’re also how new speakers, organisers, and contributors find their feet.
How you can support it
Speak. Got something worth teaching? Practical lessons, honest stories, workshops that leave people with something they can use. First-time speakers are welcome.
Volunteer. WordCamps only happen because people give their time. Most help is needed on the day – registration, session support, speakers, logistics. More details closer to the event.
Sponsor. We’ve had interest from a mix of corporates, freelancers, and smaller supporters, but we still need more sponsors to come on board. Sponsorship keeps tickets accessible and covers the costs of a full community day. Every level helps.
Attend. Buy a ticket. Show up. Tell someone else. That’s support too – and it’s how we know the room will be worth building.
